Newman’s Own Coffee

Newman’s Own coffee is one of the many products from Paul Newman’s food company, Newman’s Own. Although this coffee bears the Newman name, it is actually produced by Green Mountain Coffee via a partnership between the two companies. In keeping with the tradition of selling high-quality, healthful foods, Newman’s Own coffee is certified organic as well as certified fair trade. Also, Arabica coffee beans are used in all of Newman’s Own organic coffee roasts.

How are Organic Green Coffee Beans Different from Regular Coffee?

Most people don’t know that one of the main differences between organic green coffee beans and regular coffee is the large quantity of pesticides used in traditional coffee production. Coffee plants are protected from insects and weeds by very strong pesticides that can leach into the ground water and surrounding soils. After the green coffee beans are harvested, they are treated with additional chemicals.

Coffee was historically grown beneath the shade of other trees and amongst crops. In this manor the soil was healthier and water contamination was prevented. Today, unfortunately, many commercial producers of coffee have discarded this methodology in favor of plowing under large tracts of land and chopping down the surrounding shade trees. This made chemical insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizers a requirement to sustain the green coffee bean crops. These chemicals have damaged the taste of the coffee and health of the soil.
